Izzy made it, even if nothing else did. And that was all that mattered to the Weaver family.
The Weavers had to drive through walls of flames and across a burning bridge to get to safety, and, like so many others, had virtually no warning or time to escape the blaze. In the frenzy, Izzy was frightened and ran off in the other direction.
About 36 hours later, Katherine Weaver’s son, Jack Weaver, and son-in-law, Patrick Widen, decided to head back to the house to “see if by some miracle Izzy survived.”
Jack Weaver was devastated when he saw that the house was completely destroyed by the fire. But, moments later, Izzy came running out, changing the mood from somber to ecstatic.
9-year-old Izzy had survived cancer—twice! And, now has survived (without injury) the worst of California wildfires.
