I explain to Bill and Wendy, that with limited resources for a City our size we do great, as about 90 percent plus of cats make it out, and well over 80 percent of dogs. Of course, we want to do better – but we need to eventually be on par with a budget to do it.
Wendy asked why so much recent success? I answer, “Two words: Susan Russell.”
Because of the dog flu, we need foster families without other dogs (therefore no way to spread the dog flu). The dog flu (or canine influenza virus) is tricky, as about 20 percent of dogs can carry the virus without themselves becoming sick.
I also talk about the new combined dog flu vaccine, which will now cover both known strains of dog flu that exist in the U.S. (H3N2 and H3N8).
