Veterinary behaviorist Dr. Nicholas Dodman gets into the heads of our pets when we discuss his latest book, Pets on The Couch: Neurotic Dogs, Compulsive Cats, Anxious Birds, and The New Science of Animal Psychiatry.
Listen HERE to our discussion on my national radio show, Steve Dale’s Pet World. Dr. Dodman, the former director of animal behavior at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, now serves as professor emeritus.
Are our dogs really neurotic? Dodman says some truly are. He suggests it’s happening more today than years ago, and says inbreeding is a good part of the reason for this.
One highlight: Dodman believes tail chasing in bull terriers is actually a syndrome akin to autism.
