Jennifer Arnold of the non-profit Canine Assistants is a revolutionary! Her latest book is “Love Is All Your Need: The Revolutionary Bond-Based Approach to Educating Your Dog.” Her views might be controversial to some – and sometimes I don’t agree….HEAR it on my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show.
In her book, she writes:
Dogs are highly attuned social animals. Their social genius is at the very core of my philosophy Because of it they are far better led through bonding than they ever could be through dominating. And it often seems dogs can read our minds. Understandable, when you remember that dogs as a species have been studying humans for more than 10,000 years. Conversely, we’ve been studying them seriously for only the past 20 years. We have some catching up to do
Arnold says it’s not about training so much as it is about the bond. If your dog loves you and you love your dog, everything will be okay. Can it be that simple.
However, she also says –
I think obedience training is the worst thing that has happened to our dogs for a long time.
Hear why she says that – though I don’t totally agree. (part 2 of the interview in an upcoming post)
