Because it is fall and heading toward winter truly doesn’t mean the treat of tick disease is gone, or even decreased. In fact, October through November is the time which Lyme disease specifically is MOST prevalent in dogs (and sometimes dogs are co-infected with a cocktail of tick diseases). Of course, dogs are a sentinel to tick disease in people.
Tips about what we can do to protect ourselves:
- Remove all leaf litter
- Mow regularly
- Create a three foot barrier between your yard and wooded areas using wood chips or gravel
- Discourage wildlife by building a fence and secure trash cans to keep away rodents that carry tick
*Could it be? Even more tick disease on the way.
