Aldermen Face-Off on Animal Control

People didn’t believe me when I said Alderman Ray Lopez (15th Ward) said this on Chicago Tonight on Ch. 11. I know, it’s outrageous but watch and listen for yourself. It’s hard to believe that the Alderman, who since Executive Director Susan Russell began has been targeting her, offers this solution: “I think as we look forward to the new director, we have to look at a partnership between the new director at the City Council and the Mayor’s office to institute laws that limit the amount of animals that come through that shelter.”

WHAT!

Yes – the Alderman is right, limit the number of animals arriving at the door, and you will not have over-crowding.

However, where does he propose all the animals then go?

Alderman Nick Sposato (38th Ward), who even personally volunteers at CACC has tried to help and not hinder, and has been very hands on.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel fired Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) executive director Russell Friday (June 29) after 2 years and 2 months on the job, and Russell has received an outpouring of support from the animal welfare/rescue community.

Sposato called the move to fire Russell a political mistake. Indeed, I agree.
