Arfit Dog Rehab

Tod Miner is the owner and operator Arfit Dog Rehab in Chicago, which is comparable to an Athletico – except this place is for pets. Hear Tod on WGN Radio, Steve Dale’s Pet World describe how dogs and even cats can benefit from rehab.

Tod is a human physical therapist by profession, and describes how and why he began to work with pets and became a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner, offered from the University of Tennessee, the only  university credential program for canine rehabilitation available to veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists and students in one of the accepted professions.

We talk about how most of Minor’s clients are either older creaky pets or canine athletes.

We discuss various modalities, from stretching, increasing movement, laser therapy, dry needling, tPEMF or targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and more.

Bed rest isn’t usually the answer post sports injury surgery, it turns out recovery occurs much faster with movement and physical therapy in dogs just as it is in people.

Physical therapy is so proven to be of benefit that pet insurance typically covers the visits.

We do talk about weight reduction issues, as overweight dogs are more likely to be injured and recovery is slower. Getting weight down is actually something that can be done proactively.
