Booth 46: Jill Wine-Banks Watergate Girl

Share

Jill Wine-Banks is often dubbed “the Watergate Girl” for her work on a trial which 250 million Americans weren’t even born. So, why remember Watergate, and the associated trials and resignation of an American President? It’s more than all that, it’s also one trial lawyer, Jill Wine-Banks, rising to help to lead the trial, which women at that time just didn’t do. She did crash the glass ceiling.

At Petterino’s Restaurant Booth 46 Podcast, listen HERE from WGN Radio to a conversation with this trailblazer who broke the glass ceiling for many other women to follow.

To the song Come Fly Me, she recalls dancing with President Gerald Ford (known at that time for his lack of elegance – or simply put, clumsiness). So, what kind of dancer was President Ford?

Women at the time she became an attorney were only four percent of the profession. How did she rise to the top? And was she aware that she was breaking new ground?

Her memoir is The Watergate Girl: My Fight for Truth and Justice Against a Criminal President.  She talks about Howard Hunt, G Gordon Liddy, John Dean, Jeb Stuart Magruder and other Watergate characters she knew.  She also reveals what Watergate did for her love life.

Wine-Banks offers her concerns about money in politics, and how social media is intertwined in all that.

Her book was optioned for the big screen. Who would play Wine-Banks and most of all, her ex-husband? Katie Holmes was originally was going to her.

Her podcast is #SistersInLaw. Today Wine-Banks is an MSNBC analyst and speaker.
