with David Frei at the National Dog Show

Doc Emrick is a National Hockey League Hall of Fame broadcaster (Foster Hewitt Memorial Award) and David Frei is a Dog Writers’ Association of America Hall of Famer. There’s no question whatsoever that Emrick is considered one of the best EVER to call a hockey game. Frei is Mr. Dog Show and has been the voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show since 2002 the voice of the National Dog Show Presented by Purina. They are each the very best at what they do! Back in 2017, on WGN radio, I thought it would be fun for them to play “job switch.” Frei announced a make believe hockey game in his head, and Emrick announced a made up dog show. This is what it sounded like.

Doc Emrick, who just authored Off Mike: How a Kid from Basketball-Crazy Indiana Became America’s NHL Voice (forward by Eddie Olczyk) also just announced his retirement. Doc will be on my WGN Radio Steve Dale’s Pet World Show at 5:30 AM CT on October 25 (if you miss it, I will post audio on this blog) and on November 8 a guest on my new  WGN Radio show, Steve Dale’s Other World, 1 to 3 p.m. CT, where you can even phone in and ask questions live (312-981-7200). Listen to WGN Radio at 720 AM on the radio or here online.

A portion of the proceeds of Emrick’s book will benefit Michigan animal rescue (he resides in Michigan).
