Dr.Dana Varble

Dr. Dana Varble, chief veterinary officer of VMX and North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) is a favorite guest on Steve Dale’s Pet World on WGN Radio. Listen HERE to our discussion on the NAVC Veterinary Nurse/Technician Empowerment Initiative—a program designed to elevate and advance credentialed veterinary technicians and nurses. Even though these professionals are critical team members, their skills are often underutilized. You might be surprised about all licensed, certified and registered veterinary technicians and nurses do. In fact, arguably that list is far more than human nurses. And Dr. Varble explains further what changes for the better will happen because of NAVC, for the better for pet parents as well as the profession.

Dr. Varble is also so excited about a new way to better catch the dog’s “business” on that end to super sensitively find if there are parasites. It’s the first PCR test for parasites, from Antech Diagnostics, detecting 20 intestinal parasites, emerging threats like treatment-resistant hookworm and zoonotic Giardia

There’s also a new medication, which will come out later in the year, to treat pain in cats, called Solensia.

And a discussion on keeping cats safe in cold weather.
