Enriching Environments for Cats

American cats are brain dead and fat. I think it’s best they are indoors, where for sure there’s no issue with coyotes chasing them or being hit by cars; they’re safer inside….However, life should be stimulating for any pet. And living only for food, often training people to be automatic food dispensers (when we become lazy and leave food out 24/7), and spending all day every day on the sofa isn’t healthy. Also, the do-nothing lifestyle leads to the epidemic we have of overweight/obese pets (over 50 percent of dogs and over 60 percent of cats).

I write about environmental enrichment here, including feline enrichment.  This video demonstrates one game we play with our cat, Roxy. (We produced this several years ago for the late great grandfather of veterinary behavior Dr. R.K. Anderson)
