Great American Dog & Cat Shows

Share

Absolutely, the Great American Dog Show and the Great American Cat Show, November 23, and November 24 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center (1551 Thoreau Dr) is a big deal, which includes an American Kennel Club Dog Show and The International Cat Association cat show. And that’s interesting – and kind of cool….Instead of watching a dog show on TV, you can attend one. But the real draw are myriad of additional events, from dock diving (dogs taking a running leap and up to 30 feet into the sky before they plunge into a pool); a kids zone which includes face painting, coloring areas, a kids’ agility course, stuffed animal pee wee show, and experts to teach kids how to care for their dogs. There were will also be agility demos and opportunities to ask dog trainers questions.

Aside from potentially seeing well over 100 dog breeds, there will be 73 cat breeds,  Who knew there were so many cat breeds, from the “werewolf cat,” or the Lykoi or the follically impaired Sphynx

And shopaholics will go crazy shopping for their furry family members just in time for the howidays as many pet products only to be found at show like this will be available.

I will appear as one of several experts featured. I will be there only on Sunday, 1 p.m. talking dogs and 2 p.m. talking cats – aside from answering pet behavior question; topics will include new monoclonal antibodies therapies to treat pain in dogs/cats; Fear Free which is an initiative to minimize fear, anxiety and stress of vet visits and more, from carrier training cats to a new way to talk about dog bite prevention.

The International Kennel Club was originally established in 1900 as the Chicago Kennel Club. For years, IKC hosted the iconic, all breed International Kennel Club of Chicago Dog Show, the premier dog show in the Midwest and one of America’s most prestigious events. A venerated Chicago tradition for decades, the show has welcomed millions of guests and became an annual destination for families from across Chicagoland. Now under the new ownership of D. Scott Pfeil and Erika Wyatt, the Chicago Dog Show returned in 2023, bigger and better than ever.
