What’s the latest on where the novel corona virus, SARS CoV-2 first originated? On my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show, I talk with Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States. She explains first what a wet market or animal market is. “These crowded markets with stressed, scared wild animals.” The animals, sometimes there illegally because they are endangered, and typically slaughtered inhumanely right there without any attention to hygiene. In some places dogs are slaughtered here too. It’s a perfect storm waiting for disease to occur.
Block explains why even the wet market in Wuhan hasn’t disappeared, at least not yet. And sadly, similar markets are even found in the U.S.
