‘I Thought It Was a Dog’

I can see where people may mistake a coyote or a wolf for a dog, but a full grown 7-foot American alligator?

A 49-year old man was on pathway near the motel he was staying in Sarasota, FL and noticed a dark figure moving along the bushes, and believed it was a dog with a long leash, which is why he reportedly wasn’t hesitant to move out of the way.

He then apparently approached “the dog, hi puppy puppy,” when the alligator lunged and seriously bit his leg, pulling off muscle and tissue. The alligator didn’t bark or growl.

A sheriff’s sergeant caught the alligator and held it for a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) trapper and relocated further from people.

The victim will ultimately be fine. And according to the sheriff’s office, the victim wasn’t inebriated. However he may need glasses.
