Chicago’s doesn’t have a veterinarian named James Heriot, but we did have Dr. Sheldon Rubin for 41 years caring for and treating pets, advocating for laws beneficial to pets and appearing in the media to disseminate information.

Long before there were spay/neuter initiatives, Dr. Rubin advocated for low cost options – and put them in place at the Anti Cruelty Society, where he still serves as a board member.

From Oprah, to Bozo the Clown to Wally Phillips, Dr. Rubin has been the most visible veterinarian in Chicago, and one of the most visible in the nation. He has appeared on my radio shows more than any other veterinarian. Here’s a link to a recent WLS Podcast, where we spoke about everything from heartworm disease to grooming dogs for the summer. He was honored in this conversation by the executive vice president of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Rubin has served as president of the Chicago and Illinois Veterinary Medical Associations, American Heartworm Society, and so much more than that over the years. Most of all, he’s helped countless pets with his good medicine, and countless clients with his good heart.

I was honored to speak at a private party for Dr. Rubin. Many clients and fans and pet lovers wanted to come but space was limited. Here’s your chance to say ‘thanks’ to Dr. Rubin.

especially in this economy we really need it.” My reply, “If it helps
