Many Ukrainians Fleeing with Their Pets
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated,” Mahatma Gandhi’s famous and true quotation we’re seeing play out in real time in Ukraine.
Countless Ukrainians have fled the country or their own homes for perceived safer places with family members, including their pets. Neighboring nations, Poland, Romania and Hungary have relaxed usual restrictions for pets to cross borders – such as proof of rabies vaccines, which is, of course, the humane response.
Others wouldn’t leave because they felt they had nowhere to escape with their pet(s).
