Andrea Metcalf and a buddy
Andrea Metcalf, nationally known exercise-diet-health guru, who happens to be both based in Chicago and a dog lover talks about exercising with dogs on my Steve Dale’s Pet World show on WGN Radio.. Listen HERE as Andrea describes her new “thing,” called Pawsilates, held at StudiosFUSE (2215 N. Halsted St.) This is a gentle and fun way to work out with your dog, and enhance your pup’s social life too.
She says, “Working your waistline with your canine.” She says over 65 of U.S. citizens are overweight or obese and about half our dogs are overweight or obese.
The whole point is to walk with your dog, take your to partake in Pawsilates. As a part of this, it’s more than exercise, even meditation with your dogs. She describes how we can tell if our dogs are truly overweight – sometimes it can be difficult to discern and how Pawsilates may make a difference.
While we’re all still sheltering in place, Metcalf is offering lots of online alternatives:
Is Your Dog Anxious?
Are some dogs predisposed to be anxious? With all the anxiety going on now, are some of our dogs picking up on that anxiety? Are some dogs more likely to have thunderstorm or separation anxiety? I talk a bit about why some dogs might indeed be predisposed to be anxious. While all dogs are individuals genetics does matter, after all, a Great Dane is likely to be different than a Bichon Frise. I describe what epigenetics is, and that our are have the same affect as in people.

Why Dogs Poop Pointing the Same Way
It’s thought that birds use the earth’s magnetic field to help them to find their way. It turns out dogs may use the earth’s magnetic field to line them up in just the right direction when they go to the bathroom, in a north-south axis, according to a mew study. So, dogs turn, often three times, and face a specific direction with a purpose. I want to know the direction your dogs do their business.
