Pet Behavior Books May Save Lives, "Good Cat!" "Good Dog!"

If you have an ebook reader – and if you have a dog and/or a cat, continue reading….

The number one cause of death in dogs and cats isn’t cancer, or heart disease….it’s poor behavior. When the pet isn’t acting up to our expectations, the human animal bond may crash overnight, or disintegrate over time.

As that bond breaks, the pet is prone to being given up to a shelter, and cats are sometimes just pushed out the door. At a shelter, the reality is that some don’t make it (especially cats). And while some people assume cats can do fine on their own outdoors, often that’s just not so.

So, solve behavior problems – or better yet, prevent them…..and you save lives….that’s been my mantra for as long as I can remember.

And that is why it took about 2 seconds to say “yes” when Tribune Media Services asked me to author two ebooks answering the most common behavior questions, and uncommon ones too, “Good Dog!” and “Good Cat!

I am certified as a dog and cat behavior consultant, but still answers aren’t dependent on me, the point of bringing in veterinary expertise in particular is to get a medical perspective, and many others chime in….I am proud to say the most famous names in dog and cat behavior participate in this books, from certified applied animal behavior Patricia McConnell to veterinary behaviorist Dr. Karen Overall, to veterinarian and founder of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, Dr. Ian Dunbar….the list is too long for me to mention all here.

Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell from “It’s Me or the Dog” on Animal Planet wrote the foreword for “Good Dog!” and certified cat behavior consultant Pam Johnson-Bennett for “Good Cat!” Dr. Sheldon Rubin wrote the Introduction for both books. Betty White also offers comments for each book (wow!).

The book are only $2.99, wherever ebooks are sold. If you happen to be a dog trainer or a veterinarian, here’s something that is inexpensive for clients to purchase.
