Petco National Training Manager Darris Cooper talks on my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show about why the the national chain pet store banned e-collars. It’s a brave financial choice during the pandemic.

There’s no doubt about it – and we chat about why banning e-collars collars (shock collars) is both humane, and actually allows for more efficient learning utilizing only positive reinforcement techniques. We talk about and explain how #stoptheshock allows for both Fear Free and LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive) learning principles and training techniques.

Cooper notes that Fear Free helped to motivate this decision, and studies which demonstrate positive reinforcement is the most efficient way to train dogs.

He adds that just because some always trained using shock collars, it doesn’t mean we can’t do better. Now, Petco is doing better.
