Rescuing a Puppy that Wasn’t a Puppy

How wonderful, after seeing a puppy distressed at the side of the road in Cape Cod, MA, the family rescued, fed and cared for the puppy. Well, what they thought this was a puppy.

Facebook post from Cape Wildlife Center explains that the “puppy” turned out to be a coyote.

The pup, thought to be around five to six weeks old, was cleared for rabies and given its first round of vaccinations, The wildlife center will temporarily raise him alongside a female coyote pup between thee and four weeks old who was recently transferred from the Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island. Their goal may be to release the coyotes into a secluded forest.

While these folks meant well to rescue what they thought was a lost puppy, it’s likely the coyote den and the coyote mother might have been nearby.
