Ron and Vicki Santo Diabetic Alert Dog Foundation To Introduce Their First Service Dog
Share
Diabetic alert dogs – dogs actually trained to alert before a diabetic’s blood sugar crashes or surges – it’s amazing stuff. Vicki Santo speaks with me about the Ron and Vicki Santo Diabetic Alert Dog Foundation , and how the non-profit came to be. It turns out the Cub great’s dog, named Joker, was able to do this. Listen HERE on Steve Dale’s Pet World, on WGN Radio, for how Vicki says she is continuing her husband’s legacy. Vicki tells the story, and also about how Ron once called into my radio saying, “My dog doesn’t like me, what do I do?”
Ron and Vick i Santo Diabetic Alert Dog Foundation will introduce their first dog officially at Goose Island ( 3535 N. Clark St., Chicago) 5 p.m. on September 3 (before the Cubs game); donations of course, $10 and up per person would be nice. There will also be some memorabilia for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Foundation, also Hall- of-Famer Ferguson Jenkins will be there signing baseballs to support the Foundation. I will emcee the event.
Jenkins will also sign baseballs September 1 through 3 at the Cubs games, and proceeds will benefit the Ron and Vicki Santo Diabetic Alert Dog Foundation.
Read the piece I wrote for my national newspaper column about who this first dog will go to, and why the dog will be a life-changer.
As always, we salute newsman Schwanee.
