Saving Dogs & Cats Overseas; Celebrating Working Animals on WGN Radio

Listen HERE to a conversation about a unique non-profit on Steve Dale’s Pet World, WGN radio to Mark Buchanon launched Grover & Pals, an ambitious non-profit organization to save dogs and cats in various developing and under-resourced countries where animal welfare resources are scarce. Many, if not most cats and dogs in these places eek out an existence on the streets. The shelters in these places are stretched paper think, at best. The task seems overwhelming, but the organization is making a difference.
Buchanon describes how you can support these animals in need, sometimes providing for veterinary care, and often saving a life. Here’s how you can sponsor an animal, Grover & Pals. Countries where the non-profit offers support often otherwise forgotten animals include Nepal, Moldova and India.
Celebrating Service and Working Dogs
HEAR on Steve Dale’s Pet World WGN Radio how Sculptor Susan Bahary, founder and chair of the National Service Animals Monument, joins David Frei of the National Dog Show presented by Purina to discuss the effort to create a lasting tribute to service, therapy, military, law enforcement, and other working animals. It’s about time – in a sense – for all the work these animals do. She also talks about how she met President George H. Bush and his service dog Sully.
Frei will emcee the upcoming Purple Poppy Awards, taking place Sept. 17 at the National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C. and tickets to attend are still available.
Repercussions of the Cost of Pet Care
Going into debt for pet care? It’s happening. And other barriers to veterinary care, aside from cost – though cost increasingly is the most significant.
