This is why I am an advocate of training dogs to do their business on leash and fast. So, going outside isn’t to play – at least when you say “got potty” or “do your business.” Indeed, it is then all about business. To train for this, simply say the chosen cue words at a time when you pretty much know the dog has gotta go (like first thing in the morning).
Once business is achieved offer an amazing high value treat, praise and touch counts too so pet your dog.
The goal is so you can say “go potty” or “do your business” and it will happen fast, which is more than a tad convenient in the rain, snow or or simply when you are in a hurry.
