Windy Kitty Purrs In Bucktown: Up To Us To Support

Cat cafe’ in Chicago? There are about 80 of them around the country – but only one in Chicago, the recently opened Catcade, which combines gaming and cat adoption.

The Windy Kitty Cat Café and Lounge, a more traditional cat café, launched privately by Jenny Tiner (a former volunteer at a cat shelter that promised a café but never came through) has decided to go it alone. She’s almost there – but needs your help at the finishing line. Her pre-opening “pawties” are September 1 and September 2. at the still to be constructed café, 1746 W. North Avenue (in Bucktown).

I will emcee on September 1. And on September 2, Chris Poole of Internet (feline) stars Cole and Marmalade will be there.

Please help if you are a cat lover:
– Clearly the shelter that promised a ‘proper cat café’ (why bother naming them) has let Chicago down in several ways, not exactly making good on promises.
– The Windy Kitty Cat Café and Lounge will work with Alive Rescue, and adopt cats (including some cats with special needs, something else that the shelter not worth mentioning once excelled in), and most cats to be adopted from Chicago Animal Care & Control which is where the need is greatest to find forever homes.
– The Café will be a plus for Bucktown, although already a booming area, cat cafés are believe it or not, a tourist destination for many.
– The Café will offer educational opportunities, as special speakers such as veterinarians, and others will talk about cat-friendly topics.
– The Café will offer lots of fun programing for cat lovers, from a cat yoga to cat movie nights.
– Also, the Café, like any café, can become a hang-out for locals who want good coffee, and like cats.

Cole and Marmalade represented on Sept.2. I will be there Sept. 1

On both nights (Sept. 1 and Sept. 2), the events begin at 6:30 p.m. Donation of $30 is requested (and no, don’t bring your cat from home – that is not a good idea…but you may return home with gifts for kitties, however.)

Drinks, veggie snacks, and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and lots of items will be available for auction. Tiner is an artist, and some of her artist friends are helping out to auction off cat art. And, there’s much more, including everything from a pet DNA kit to a wide assortment of cat-related products, like Feliway-multicat (a copy of a natural pheromone to help cats to get along that may otherwise not be).

CEVA Animal Health donated TONS of product, including Feliway Multicat

Tiner says, “This fundraiser will not only help us reach our fundraising goal, but, if we make enough, we can build our kitten nursery and have that running when we open. It would be a dream come true and only increase the ways in which we can make a difference in saving cats. We will make announcements about contributors daily by way of Instagram & Facebook.”

Please show your support. If you can’t be there in person, I have another idea: Tiner has created an Amazon Wishlist!
