Zen by Cat Supporting FIP Studies

Zen by Cat is a non-profit devoted to fund further research into feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), and co-founder Peter Cohen talks about it on the national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show.

The good new is at the Winn Feline Foundation (now EveryCat Health Foundation) funded studies by researchers around the globe and the result is that FIP is now considered treatable rather than the previous designation of fatal. By far, leading the way among researchers was Dr. Niels Pedersen, now professor emeritus at the Veterinary School at the University of California Davis.

“The holy grail would be a vaccine,” says Cohen, and potentially this could help people too.

Cohen notes the off-label drugs currently available to treat FIP in the U.S. (until the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine approves a drug still awaiting approval) greatly DO work, though they are from China and unapproved. The problem is that you need to be able to get these drugs. A Facebook page is dedicated to help people navigate all this.

You can contribute one time only or the best thing may be a $10 per month donation – if you’ve ever lost a cat to FIP consider paying it forward with whatever you can afford.
