It’s a revolution in veterinary medicine, and it’s called Fear Free. The idea is to prevent fear, anxiety, and stress in pets (and people too) related to veterinary visits. Listen HERE from my national Steve’s Dale’s Pet World to Dr. Marty Becker, who created the initiative.
Fear, according to Dr. Becker, is the worst thing a social species can experience. And our dogs and cats are social species. What’s more, it doesn’t need to be this way. Veterinary visits don’t need to be scary; this doesn’t need to be the norm.
Fear Free is about how to deliver a calm pet to the veterinarian, and it’s also about the veterinary clinic not contributing to fear, anxiety, or stress. Becker even foresees Fear Free grooming and Fear Free boarding facilities, and definitely Fear Free trainers.
Emotional well-being is as important as physical well-being. The result of Fear Free is better medicine, healthier pets, and happier pet owners and veterinary health care professionals.
