I was amazed that legendary NHL announcer (for NBC) Mike “Doc” Emrick happens to be a fan of my show. And now you can HEAR Doc Emrick on Steve Dale’s Pet World, WGN radio.
We talk some vintage hockey, and how, at one time, a hamster or live octopus might have been tossed onto the ice by fans.
We talk about how we first met each other, having to do with a dog having a “mistake” in the studio following a pet adoption segment on the Steve Cochran Show while Pete McMurray was filling in. When Doc Emrick learned of the poor pup’s accident, he said we need to do something about this dog, and he paid for that dog and others to be adopted from South Suburban Humane Society.
So, what’s going on with our Blackhawks this year? We offer the sweet story of Chicago goalie Jeff Glass. Is depth an issue for the Hawks? Or, is it defense? Maybe both?
We talk about the NHL Winter Classic in Brooklyn, and just how cold (and magical) it was. And, Emrick offers his idea as to why the players love these outdoor games.
I also discuss the proposed ban of the sale of dogs and cats at pet stores in Illinois’ DuPage and Will counties. I spoke about the issue on WGN with State Senator Michael Connolly and Suzanne Hart, Will County Board Chairperson. We also discussed the issue with WGN/CLTV Political Analysts Paul Lisnek on his show “Politics Tonight.” At the tail end of that appearance, Lisnek said something about me being on Noah’s Ark. I responded by pointing out that Noah wouldn’t let him on the boat.
And, one texter wanted to know when Doc will make a house-call.
