Allergies in dogs is pretty complex. Sure, it’s often manifested with itchiness, so they lick their paws or bellies or wherever it itches. Unlike people, dogs only rarely sneeze when allergic or have a runnier (than usual) nose. Often, itchy dog ears is a sign, and it’s common for dogs to have ear issues resulting form allergies, according to veterinary dermatologist Dr. Tiffany Tapp.
Today, allergy testing to determine what’s gong on with what’s called otitis externa is a start, Tapp says.
There’s new technology to treat the ear infections (bacterial and yeast). and better deal with the nasty and painful ears (important to note, most of these dogs really are hurting more than only itchy); it’s an adaptable jell called OSURNIA, an anti-yeast and antibiotic in one applied by veterinarians (also a plus, says Tapp).
