Pope Francis has been on record more than once, supporting the protection of our environment, protecting wildlife, and supporting love of all, and love for all – including pets. . . respecting all that has been created, including the very planet we live on.
About a year ago it was reported that Pope Francis recently sought to comfort a distraught boy whose dog had died, the pontiff took the sort of pastoral approach he is famous for — telling the youngster not to worry, that he would one day see his pet in heaven. “Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures,” Francis said reassuringly.
Later, others said the incident never occurred. No matter, the message appears believable, consistent with this Pope’s overall messaging.
In the name of Francis of Assisi, a patron Saint for animals:
Francis was very humble and loved all of God’s creatures. He loved birds animals, plants, trees and nature itself. He loved the depressed and the outcastes. He treated the birds, the beasts and all beings as brothers and sisters.
I don’t know why, perhaps humans are meant ultimately to destroy one another. Political leaders around the globe aren’t helping, and arguably are responsible for making matters much worse. Regardless of your religious belief or lack thereof – I suggest the general messaging from this Pope is something we must listen to, and even pray for. I am anything but a religious scholar – but it’s not hard to figure out, in a word the Holy Father’s messaging is “Tolerance” not only for one another, but for other living beings on the planet.
The question is – Will the world heed his advice?
