Sit Stay Read is an amazing Chicago based literacy program. And it really does work – as these trained dogs (offering unconditional love) are really good at listening to kids read, and the kids significantly improve their reading skills, as Sit Stay Read Director of Programs Kate McIlvain explains HERE on WGN Radio on Steve Dale’s Pet World. In addition, as an intended consequence, kids in the program learn about humane education.
On Friday March 27, I have the honor of emceeing the Bark ‘n Ball benefit at the Hotel Palomar (505 N. State St.), starting 6:30 p.m. Honorees are Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza – for her passionate support of Chicago Companion Animal & Consumer Protection Ordinance – and also featuring special guest, Fifty the two-legged pit bull.
Most tickets are $110. For an extra $50 you can bring your dog (on-leash). Click HERE for tickets.
The program works! Students in the Sit Stay Read Program in their second grade program, for example, perform 48 better than compared to kids not in the program.
